世界著名的七大奇跡之一 泰姬陵，是莫臥兒（Mughal）王朝第五代皇帝沙賈汗為其愛妃建造的。慕塔芝瑪(MumtazMahal)是沙賈汗的第二個皇妃，她為皇帝生育很多孩子后最終死于難產。她臨終前的愿望是擁有一處漂亮的陵寢。沙賈汗是個有情有意的皇帝愛妃的亡故使他悲痛萬分一夜間白了頭發。為全力實現愛妃的遺愿動用了數萬名工人，用了22年時間為愛妃建造了這座就舉世無雙的陵寢。陵寢的主體建筑用純白大理石砌建而成，穆斯林風格的拱券四周用各種珍貴的玉石鑲嵌出美麗的圖案。水景的應用是莫臥兒王朝建筑的特點，建筑物四周都開鑿有四通八達的水道，水道兩旁植有果樹和柏樹，分別象征著生命和死亡。莫臥兒建筑還有一個特點就是絕對的對稱。建筑本身是對稱的，建筑群的布局也是對稱的。陵寢的東面有一座朝西的清真寺，是為了拜祭用的。
